How I stay well

A week before Christmas I came down with flu (shivering, aching, headache, nausea). I was hoping that it would pass before the big day and it did. In fact, I was better after four days. There’s lots of health experts who suggest different strategies that may help you through the flu season. However, this is what helps me.

During flu I only ate bone stock with vegetables – 3 times per day. I drank warm water with lemon and ginger too.

I took the following supplements – I like to keep it simple during an illness

  • Vitamin C 2000 mg
  • Zinc 30 mg
  • Vitamin D3 10,000 IU plus K2
  • Medicinal mushrooms: Reishi, Shitake and Cordyceps

My Daily Practices

  • Intermittent fasting 3 times per week (2 meals between 1pm and 8pm each day)
  • I drink filtered water (not from plastic bottles)
  • I eat a local vegetables and whole-food diet (low carbs, no highly processed food, no refined sugar)
  • I eat meat and fish once per week
  • I eat fermented foods (yoghurt, kimchi, miso and sauerkraut)
  • I spend at least 20 minutes natural daylight and in nature
  • I spend at least 10-30 minutes stretching, yoga, walking, breathwork
  • I spend at least 10-20 minutes practising Jin Shin daily – a Japanese acupressure technique
  • I write in my intention journal most days – my way of offloading
  • I like to dance for 5-10 minutes to my favourite songs
